Voltpost and AT&T Collaborate on Connected Streetlight EV Chargers

This partnership marks the first step in AT&T’s nationwide expansion with Voltpost

Streetlights are lighting the way to more convenient public EV charging. Voltpost is retrofitting streetlights with Level 2 chargers in cities like New York, Chicago, and Detroit, offering easy access for electric vehicle owners.

To enhance the efficiency of its charging units, Voltpost has teamed up with AT&T for IoT connectivity across Michigan and the Detroit metro area. This partnership marks the first step in AT&T’s nationwide expansion with Voltpost.

Each Voltpost charger installed on a streetlight has 2 to 4 outlets, depending on location. Curbside units typically feature two outlets, while those in parking lots can accommodate up to four.

Beyond charging, AT&T’s connectivity offers a crucial service: software updates for connected EVs. Just as people connect to Wi-Fi in coffee shops, Voltpost can provide charging and act as a hub for downloading updates for vehicle software.

Voltposts tap into grid electricity without the need for costly trench digging. Whether the power is underground or overhead, a single cable is routed through existing infrastructure, eliminating disruption and expense.
