Tesla Recalls Nearly 700,000 Vehicles Over Tire Pressure Warning Failure
The specific models involved are the 2024 Cybertruck, 2017-2025 Model 3, and 2020-2025 Model Y
Tesla has initiated a recall affecting approximately 694,000 vehicles due to a malfunction in the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The specific models involved are the 2024 Cybertruck, 2017-2025 Model 3, and 2020-2025 Model Y. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified that the TPMS warning light in these vehicles may not remain illuminated between drives, potentially failing to alert drivers to low tire pressure and thereby increasing the risk of accidents.
To address this issue, Tesla began deploying a free over-the-air software update to the affected vehicles in mid-November 2024. This update aims to rectify the TPMS malfunction without requiring owners to visit a service center. Owners of the impacted vehicles will receive notification letters by February 15, 2025, providing details about the recall and instructions on how to proceed.
