Adobe Premiere Pro is getting AI video tools
Adobe is developing a generative AI video model for its Firefly family to enhance Premiere Pro. These tools, alongside potential third-party integrations with Runway, Pika Labs, and OpenAI’s Sora models, will enable users to manipulate video content using text prompts and extend clip length.
No specific release date has been set for Adobe's new video generation tools, but they’re expected to launch within the year. While Adobe has showcased its own video model capabilities, integration with third-party AI models remains uncertain.
Adobe's exploration of third-party AI integrations aims to provide users with more options, such as using Pika for extending shots or Sora and Runway for generating B-roll. This move aligns with Adobe's strategy to enhance its software ecosystem and make AI tools more accessible to creative professionals.
Tesla lays off 10% of global workforce
Tesla, led by CEO Elon Musk, will cut over 10% of its global workforce as part of a cost reduction and productivity increase initiative, as stated in a memo obtained by Electrek.
The company currently employs 140,473 individuals. This decision comes amidst a challenging period for Tesla, with its shares dropping 31% this year. Despite the ongoing popularity of electric vehicles, Tesla faces intensified competition globally, notably from Chinese manufacturers like BYD and Xiaomi, which recently entered the market with lower-priced electric cars.
Musk has acknowledged the competitive landscape, particularly in China, where Tesla faces formidable rivals. He previously suggested that the top car manufacturers might soon include several Chinese companies alongside Tesla.

Netflix's true crime documentary "What Jennifer Did" is under scrutiny for allegedly employing AI-manipulated imagery, as reported by Futurism. The photos, exhibiting typical AI distortions, have sparked ethical concerns regarding their use in documentaries, particularly since the depicted individual awaits retrial in prison.
Notably, one image prominently displays Jennifer Pan's severely distorted left hand, while another exhibits a peculiar gap in her cheek. Despite mounting evidence, Netflix has refrained from addressing the allegations, leaving the manipulated nature of the images unacknowledged.
Speculation suggests the AI may derive imagery from authentic photos of Pan, potentially swaying viewer perceptions and compromising the documentary's objectivity. Amidst the controversy, questions persist about responsible AI utilization in storytelling, especially within legal contexts.

Samsung awarded $6.4 billion CHIPS Act grant
The Biden administration has announced a preliminary agreement to award Samsung up to $6.4 billion in grants as part of CHIPS Act funding. This funding will support the construction of a research and development campus in Taylor, Texas, focusing on advanced logic technologies and chip packaging.
By establishing a dedicated packaging facility, Samsung aims to reduce reliance on overseas processes and strengthen the domestic supply chain. Additionally, the money will be used to expand Samsung's existing facility in Austin, forming a comprehensive ecosystem for chip development and production.
The initiative is expected to create 21,500 jobs and provide $40 million for training. Under the CHIPS and Science Act, the government has the authority to incentivize domestic spending through grants and loans, as demonstrated by GlobalFoundries' $1.5 billion grant in February for a chip fabrication facility in Malta, New York.
