STORIES MAKING A SPLASH

AI
Amazon is reportedly working on a new AI chatbot

Amazon is allegedly developing a new chatbot codenamed "Metis," Business Insider reports, citing an internal document and unnamed sources familiar with the project. Metis would be powered by a new AI model called Olympus, diverging from Amazon's previous Titan model.

Reportedly, Amazon aims to implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) with Metis. This approach allows the chatbot to retrieve information from external, authoritative sources, enhancing the accuracy and relevance of its responses. It also enables Metis to stay updated with current information without requiring frequent model retraining.

Leading the development are Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and senior vice president Rohit Prasad, alongside a team of seasoned Alexa AI experts. Their work on Metis seems to build upon technologies developed for Amazon's upcoming "Remarkable Alexa" voice assistant.

SPACE
SpaceX wins $843 million contract from NASA

NASA has chosen SpaceX to develop a spacecraft to de-orbit the International Space Station (ISS) in 2030, with a contract valued at up to $843 million. The ISS, nearing the end of its operational life, will need to be safely disposed of as new commercial space stations emerge.

Named the U.S. Deorbit Vehicle, this spacecraft will differ from SpaceX's Dragon capsule, which delivers cargo and crew to the ISS. Unlike previous vehicles, NASA will own and operate the U.S. Deorbit Vehicle after its development. Both the vehicle and the ISS will break up upon reentry, with SpaceX tasked to ensure a safe descent away from populated areas.

Originally considering a Russian spacecraft for the task, NASA determined a new vehicle was necessary. The ISS's safe deorbiting is a shared responsibility among NASA and its international partners, though it's unclear if the contract cost is split between them.

Animoca Brands eyes going public in 2025

Animoca Brands, a gaming and metaverse giant, plans to re-enter public markets after delisting from the ASX in 2020. Considering jurisdictions like Hong Kong and the Middle East, the company aims for a smoother listing process, as reported by The Information citing co-founder Yat Siu.

Based in Hong Kong, Animoca is in talks with investment banks but has yet to decide on a location or hire an advisor. Delisted by the ASX due to concerns over compliance with listing rules regarding crypto and blockchain investments, Animoca seeks funding alternatives.

Recently, the company tokenized a rare Stradivarius violin from 1708 to secure a significant loan with Galaxy Digital. Galaxy transformed the violin into a non-fungible token (NFT) and will hold both the NFT and the physical violin until the loan is settled, with the exact loan amount undisclosed.

German government moves $15 million in Bitcoin

Crypto addresses linked to German authorities sent another 250 BTC ($15.4 million) to Bitstamp and Kraken on Wednesday, indicating a potential sale, according to Arkham. The German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) transferred 125 BTC ($7.7 million) to each exchange at 7:52 a.m. UTC. Additionally, 500 BTC ($30.9 million) was sent to the unidentified address โ€œ139Po,โ€ which might also be an exchange.

Lookonchain highlighted a 0.001 BTC transfer to Flow Traders, likely a test transaction before selling BTC through them. The German government started sending bitcoin to exchanges last week after seizing 50,000 BTC from Movie2k in January.

On Tuesday, the government sent 400 BTC ($24.3 million) to Coinbase and Kraken, and 500 BTC ($30.4 million) to โ€œ139Po.โ€ So far, around $150 million of the seized bitcoin has been transferred to exchanges, with an additional $147 million sent to โ€œ139Po.โ€
