STORIES MAKING A SPLASH

SPACE
SpaceX successfully catches returning Starship rocket

SpaceX achieved a major milestone by launching its massive Starship and successfully catching the Super Heavy booster with a set of large “chopstick” arms. This marks the first time SpaceX returned a booster to the launch site and caught it mid-air. The historic test flight, part of the Starship development program, took place Sunday at the company’s Starbase facility in Texas.

The mission is crucial for SpaceX’s vision of rapidly reusing Starship for future missions, including NASA's Artemis project to return humans to the Moon. SpaceX aims to recover both stages of the vehicle, making this catch attempt a pivotal moment in proving that goal.

After booster detachment, Starship ascended before splashing down in the Indian Ocean, as planned. The Federal Aviation Administration approved the test earlier than expected, accelerating progress in SpaceX's ambitious multi-planetary mission.

Internet Archive returns as read-only after cyberattacks

The Internet Archive is back online in a limited, read-only mode after a cyberattack took it down last week. On October 9th, a data breach and DDoS attack forced the site offline, with hackers stealing a user database containing 31 million records. Access has been partially restored, though users can’t currently add new web pages to the archive.

Founder Brewster Kahle confirmed the site is safe to use but might require more maintenance, which could cause further downtime. Essential services like email and crawlers for National Libraries have been gradually brought back online.

The attack came just weeks after Google integrated links to the Wayback Machine in its search results. Despite the breach, users can still access over 900 billion archived web pages, providing a valuable resource for historical internet content.

HubSpot acquires AI billing startup Cacheflow

HubSpot has acquired Cacheflow, a startup focused on streamlining the software sales closing process, for an undisclosed amount. Cacheflow will become a fully-owned subsidiary, enhancing HubSpot’s Commerce Hub with tools for subscription billing management and configure, price, and quote (CPQ) services.

Founded in 2021 by Brian Zotter and Sarika Garg, Cacheflow simplifies B2B software sales through no-code dashboards, helping businesses configure quotes, close deals, and manage subscriptions. Garg, a former product leader at SAP and Tradeshift, and Zotter, a former Salesforce VP, aimed to automate revenue management and shorten sales cycles.

Before the acquisition, Cacheflow raised $16 million and had 16 employees. HubSpot CEO Yamini Rangan sees Cacheflow as key to expanding their sales and billing capabilities, boosting efficiency for businesses.
