Samsung union goes on indefinite strike

Demand a 3.5% wage increase for workers

Samsung Electronics workers will extend their unprecedented strike over pay and benefits indefinitely, the labor union announced on Wednesday. The union, with around 30,000 members, demands a 3.5% wage increase, better pay transparency, and compensation for economic losses during the strike.

The strike began on Monday after failed negotiations over wages, vacations, and bonuses. This marks the first strike in Samsung Electronics’ 55-year history. The union's statement encouraged members to continue the strike until further instructions, emphasizing unity and perseverance.

Samsung stated that chip production had not been disrupted initially and pledged to prevent future disruptions while continuing negotiations. However, the union claimed the strike had already impacted chip production, criticizing Samsung's lack of genuine engagement in talks.
