Some TikTok users can now upload 60-minute videos
TikTok is experimenting with allowing users to upload 60-minute videos, a departure from its original short-form format. The feature, first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra, is currently being tested by a limited group in select markets, with no immediate plans for widespread release.
This shift reflects TikTok's response to creator demand for more time to explore diverse content types, such as cooking demos, tutorials, and comedy sketches, moving beyond its traditional 15-second videos. The move aligns TikTok more closely with YouTube, its major competitor in the video-sharing space.
By offering longer video options, TikTok aims to attract creators who typically use YouTube. Additionally, the extended format opens the door for innovative content, including full-length TV show episodes, which were previously fragmented for TikTok's platform.
Meta tests TweetDeck style layout for Threads on web
Meta is testing custom Tweetdeck-like feeds for Threads, aiming to enhance its utility. This new feature allows users to track multiple topics, searches, and accounts in a single view, similar to Twitter's X Pro (formerly Tweetdeck). Test participants can set up to 100 pinned columns for specific topics, tags, accounts, or search terms, with automatic content refresh.
Screenshots shared by Mark Zuckerberg reveal a familiar layout for those accustomed to Tweetdeck. This update signifies Meta's efforts to make Threads a more reliable source for real-time information. Alongside this, Meta has introduced a "recent" tab and trending topics to improve user experience and address complaints about the algorithmic "for you" feed.
The number of participants in the initial test is unknown, but Adam Mosseri mentioned that Meta is actively seeking feedback on these changes.

AI Special
OpenAI has secured access to real-time content from Reddit through a new deal, akin to Reddit's agreement with Google earlier this year. This collaboration allows for the integration of Reddit discussions into ChatGPT and other forthcoming products. Additionally, OpenAI will support Reddit in implementing AI-driven features for users and moderators while also leveraging its language models for app development.
Although financial details were undisclosed, OpenAI's partnership with Reddit, led by its COO and approved by the board, extends beyond access to training data. Notably, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's shareholder status in Reddit was disclosed.
Reddit CEO Steve Huffman highlighted the platform's significance as a vast repository of authentic human conversations, emphasizing its inclusion in ChatGPT as a means to foster connectivity and community discovery.
At Google I/O, new Gemini-related products were unveiled, including AI enhancements for the Education suite. Google Workspace now offers Gemini Education, with a base plan granting access to Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet, alongside AI chat capabilities.
Gemini Education Premium expands upon the base plan, offering AI-powered note-taking, summaries in Meet, and data loss prevention. Prices start at $24 per month for the base plan and $36 per month for the premium plan. Additionally, students over 18 can access Gemini for free.
Gemini introduces education-focused features, including step-by-step explanations, practice opportunities, and integration with academic resources like OpenStax textbooks. LearnLM, a set of generative AI models for education, was also introduced, already integrated into various Google products.
