NYSE to Extend Daily Trading to 22 Hours on Arca Exchange
Tapping into rising global demand for U.S. stocks
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) announced plans to expand trading hours to 22 hours a day on its digital exchange, tapping into rising global demand for U.S. stocks. Under this proposal, investors could trade all U.S. stocks, ETFs, and closed-end funds from 1:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. ET every weekday, excluding holidays.
Currently, extended trading runs from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, with regular trading hours between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET, when most volume occurs. NYSE’s Kevin Tyrrell stated that the expansion highlights the strength of U.S. markets and aims to meet worldwide demand. The plan awaits regulatory approval.
Interest in extended trading is growing, with platforms like Robinhood now offering 24-hour trading on select stocks and ETFs since last year, increasing access to global markets for retail investors.
