STORIES MAKING A SPLASH
FINANCE
Nvidia suffers record $270 billion loss in market value
September's first trading day saw a sharp sell-off, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunging over 600 points and the tech sector reeling. Nvidia (NVDA) led the losses, with Apple, Microsoft, and Google also closing lower.
Nvidia's stock took the hardest hit, plummeting 9.53% to $108 from its opening price of $116.02, wiping out $270 billion in market cap—the largest single-day loss for any U.S. company on record. This marked a significant contraction for the tech giant.
The situation worsened after the market closed, as Bloomberg reported that Nvidia received a subpoena from the DOJ over possible antitrust violations, pushing its stock even lower in after-hours trading. Meanwhile, Apple dropped 2.72% to $222.77 despite speculation about a shift toward consumer robotics ahead of its upcoming iPhone event, though it saw a slight recovery after hours.

Spotter launches AI-powered creative suite for YouTubers
Spotter, the startup known for supporting content creators, has launched Spotter Studio, its new AI-powered creative suite. Announced on Tuesday, this tool assists YouTubers with brainstorming video concepts, creating thumbnails and titles, planning projects, and team collaboration.
Spotter Studio’s standout feature analyzes billions of YouTube videos to inspire creators based on similar content. Unlike competitors like TubeBuddy and vidIQ, Spotter Studio offers highly personalized recommendations by using data from a creator’s own videos and audience insights.
Creators who sign up give Spotter access to their public YouTube content, which is used to tailor suggestions. The suite includes a “Brainstorm” feature for generating ideas and a “Diversify” button for expanding on concepts, such as branching from a basketball topic to related ideas like collaborations or personal stories.

Apple’s next iPhone SE might feature an OLED upgrade
The fourth-generation iPhone SE might feature an OLED display, according to new supply chain reports. Apple has reportedly begun ordering OLED screens from BOE and LG Display, hinting at a significant upgrade from the current LCD technology, as noted by Nikkei Asia.
Rumors about this shift have circulated for over a year, but Nikkei suggests that Apple is preparing for a new SE model’s debut in early 2025. Production could start as soon as next month, with a launch likely slated for early next year, MacRumors reports.
Additionally, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to adopt the iPhone 14's 6.1-inch chassis and might include Face ID and an Action Button. It will likely retain a single camera and is rumored to support Apple’s advanced on-device AI, potentially surpassing the iPhone 15’s capabilities.

X finally lets you edit direct messages on iOS
X, the social network owned by Elon Musk, has rolled out a highly anticipated feature for direct messages: message editing. The feature became available to iOS users over the weekend, with plans to extend it to other platforms soon.
To use the new functionality, open a direct message chat in the X iOS app, long-press the message or tap the three-dot menu, and select “Edit message.” You can modify messages without a time limit, and older DMs can be edited as well. However, each message can be edited up to five times, a limit that also applies to posts.
X maintains a log of edited messages for security but does not currently display the edit history. This feature brings X in line with other messaging apps like WhatsApp and iMessage, which have offered message editing for some time.
