Mozilla Foundation Lays Off 30% Staff

The Mozilla Foundation, the nonprofit branch of Mozilla, has laid off 30% of its workforce, citing a "relentless onslaught of change." This decision reflects the organization’s need to adapt to shifting circumstances in the tech landscape.

Previously, the Mozilla Foundation had about 60 employees reported in its 2022 tax filings. However, the employee count had risen to approximately 120 at the time of the recent layoffs. This marks the second round of job cuts at Mozilla this year, following an earlier layoff that affected several employees involved in developing the Firefox browser.

Mozilla comprises various organizations, including the Mozilla Corporation, which focuses on the development of Firefox and other technologies. The Foundation, a nonprofit entity, is responsible for overseeing corporate governance and setting policies for the organization.

The Foundation’s mission centers on advocating for privacy, inclusion, and the decentralization of technologies. Its efforts aim to create safer and more transparent online experiences, benefiting both the organization and its users.

These layoffs underscore the challenges facing Mozilla as it navigates a rapidly changing technological environment while attempting to uphold its commitment to its core values.
