Meta Quest 2 gets a permanent price cut to $199
Meta has slashed the price of the Quest 2, now at $199 for the 128GB model, following an earlier reduction this year. This move coincides with the release of the more advanced Meta Quest 3, priced at $499, indicating a push to clear out previous inventory.
For $199, buyers gain access to a headset boasting fast-switching LCD displays with 1832x1920 resolution per eye and a 90Hz refresh rate, offering a substantial entry point into VR with a robust library of apps and cloud gaming services like Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Moreover, Meta has halved the prices of Quest 2 accessories. The Elite Strap and Elite Strap with Battery are now available at $25 and $45 respectively, while the Fit Pack and official carrying case are priced at $20 each, making the overall VR experience more affordable and enticing for potential buyers.
TikTok ban bill is getting fast-tracked in Congress
Legislation aiming to ban TikTok in the US is advancing, with a revised version of the bill up for a House vote. Originally proposed as the "Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act," it now allows ByteDance up to 12 months to divest TikTok, doubling the previous timeframe.
This adjustment has swayed some Senate members, like Sen. Maria Cantwell, potentially ensuring its passage. The bill's momentum signals a significant step towards its enactment, with a Senate vote anticipated shortly after the House's decision. President Biden has expressed readiness to sign it into law, underlining its potential impact on TikTok and other apps deemed national security threats.
If enacted, the law could lead to TikTok's removal from US app stores unless it changes ownership, prompting TikTok's CEO to hint at potential legal challenges.

Meta has unveiled the latest additions to its Llama series, Llama 3 8B and Llama 3 70B, boasting 8 billion and 70 billion parameters respectively. These models represent a significant advancement over their predecessors, offering top-tier performance in text analysis and generation.
Trained on specialized 24,000 GPU clusters, Llama 3 8B and Llama 3 70B stand out as among the best-performing generative AI models available today. Meta supports this claim by citing their impressive scores on widely recognized benchmarks like MMLU, ARC, and DROP, which assess knowledge, skill acquisition, and reasoning ability respectively.
In head-to-head comparisons, Llama 3 8B surpasses competitors such as Mistral 7B and Google's Gemma 7B across multiple benchmarks, confirming its superiority in various tasks including math problem-solving and code generation.
Slack has rolled out its AI tools to all paying users, following an earlier release to a select group. The long-awaited features include auto-generated channel recaps for catching up on missed discussions, tailored to cover both work updates and office banter.
The AI efficiently summarizes channel discussions and thread conversations into brief paragraphs, easing the search for relevant information amidst the vast chat history. Users can opt for daily recaps delivered each morning, streamlining their catch-up routine.
Moreover, Slack's conversational search feature allows users to query chat content using natural language, facilitating quicker information retrieval. Language support has expanded to include Japanese and Spanish, with plans to integrate popular third-party apps like Salesforce’s Einstein Copilot in the near future.
