Sam Bankman-Fried appeals fraud conviction
Sam "SBF" Bankman-Fried's legal team has initiated an appeal against his conviction and sentencing. Filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the appeal challenges Bankman-Fried's seven felony counts and the 25-year federal prison sentence imposed by Judge Lewis Kaplan.
The filing follows Bankman-Fried's sentencing hearing, during which Judge Kaplan ordered the forfeiture of $11 billion and granted a request for him to remain at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn for the appeal process. Bankman-Fried's conviction stems from his involvement with cryptocurrency exchange FTX, which faced liquidity issues and bankruptcy in November 2022.
The appeal will now proceed to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, where judges will review the case and determine whether to uphold the conviction or grant a new trial. The grounds for the appeal have not been disclosed in the filing by attorney Alexandra Shapiro.

This partnership utilizes the Spotify Open Access API, which other publishers like Calm and The Wall Street Journal also utilize to reach Spotify's vast listener base.
With Spotify boasting 602 million monthly active users and 236 million premium subscribers, the move provides significant potential for podcasters to grow their audience.

Apple may launch M4-powered Macs later this year, building on the recent M3 release. The M4 series promises significant AI enhancements, reflecting Apple's evolving focus. Bloomberg reports three main M4 versions will update all Mac models by early 2025, including iMacs, MacBook Pros, and Mac minis.
Expectations include entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro models, with more powerful versions and Mac minis featuring M4 chips arriving in early 2025. Additional releases, like M4-powered MacBook Airs and a Mac Studio, could follow in mid-2025, although plans may change.
Apple aims to strengthen its AI capabilities with the M4 lineup, aligning with its competitors' strides. The upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference in June might unveil how these chipsets integrate with macOS, showcasing Apple's advancements in on-device AI processing.
OpenAI has launched an update to its GPT-4-Turbo AI model, boasting significant improvements in response quality and analysis. Featuring AI vision technology, it's currently accessible only to developers, with plans for integration into ChatGPT soon.
This marks the first instance of GPT-4-Turbo with vision technology available for third-party developers, promising innovative applications in fields like fashion, coding, and gaming. Additionally, the update extends the knowledge cut-off date to December 2023, enhancing the model's accuracy with more recent information.
With a focus on developer experience, the update aims to streamline workflows and enhance app efficiency, eliminating the need for separate models for image and text processing. Future plans include expanding vision analysis capabilities to consumer apps, further improving image and video understanding.
