Microsoft's 'Recall' feature raises privacy concerns

Privacy experts are raising concerns about Microsoft's new Recall feature on Copilot Plus PCs, which continuously captures screenshots of users' activities, potentially including sensitive information like passwords and financial data, stored locally on devices.

While Recall aims to aid users in locating past content, its extensive data collection has sparked privacy and security worries. The UK's Information Commissioner's Office is in discussions with Microsoft regarding user privacy safeguards.

Announced at Microsoft's Build conference, Recall is part of the new line of AI-supported Windows PCs, set to launch in June. Microsoft assures users control over the types of screenshots captured and stored, with encrypted protection for data on devices. However, Recall does not moderate content, raising concerns about sensitive information exposure.

xAI plans to build 'Gigafactory of Compute'

Elon Musk's AI startup, xAI, plans to build a massive supercomputer by fall 2025 to enhance its AI chatbot, Grok. Dubbed the Gigafactory of Compute, this project might involve Oracle and aims to surpass current GPU clusters in size and capability, The Information reports.

Musk revealed to investors that the supercomputer will utilize 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, making it four times larger than the biggest existing GPU clusters. Despite being a previous-generation technology, this substantial hardware investment underscores xAI's ambitious goals. However, Nvidia is set to release its newer H200 and Blackwell-based GPUs later this year.

xAI aims to rival AI giants like OpenAI and Google, with Musk personally committed to delivering the supercomputer on time. The upcoming supercomputer is crucial for advancing xAI's large language models, such as the future Grok 3.
