Messenger gets HD video calls and AI backgrounds

Meta’s latest Messenger update brings exciting improvements to video and audio calls. Now, when making a video call, you can replace your background with AI-generated options like a sunflower field or an alien landscape—perfect for hiding cluttered spaces.

The update also includes high-definition video, background noise suppression, and voice isolation for clearer, higher-quality calls. HD video will automatically be enabled for Wi-Fi calls, with the option to turn it on for cellular data in settings. Noise and voice features can be toggled off or on within the call settings.

Additionally, you can now leave video or audio messages when your contacts miss your call, adding a more personal touch beyond simple text or emojis. Just tap the “record message” button to send a message in your preferred format.

Jaguar rebrand and new logo sparks outrage online

Jaguar’s rebrand is drawing backlash after releasing a promotional video featuring brightly dressed models but no car. The campaign, tied to the launch of their electric GT model and updated logo at Miami Art Week on Dec. 2, emphasizes boldness with the tagline “Copy Nothing.” Critics, including X owner Elon Musk, mocked the lack of a vehicle and unclear messaging.

The ad highlights Jaguar’s shift to an all-electric future, featuring futuristic visuals and a reimagined “leaper” logo. However, abstract imagery left viewers confused, with many voicing disappointment over the strategy and logo redesign.

While rebrands aim to boost sales, they risk alienating customers if misjudged. Notable failures include Tropicana’s 2009 logo change and Radio Shack’s 2008 rebrand to “The Shack,” both of which hurt customer loyalty and sales.

Trump considers creating first White House crypto role

President-elect Donald Trump is considering creating a new White House role focused on cryptocurrency policy, according to Bloomberg. The position would be the first of its kind, underscoring the growing influence of the crypto industry in the administration. Trump’s team is consulting with industry leaders to determine its necessity and potential candidates, with some interviews taking place at Mar-a-Lago.

The new post could serve as a "crypto czar," coordinating policy across federal agencies, including the SEC and CFTC. Crypto advocates hope the role will report directly to Trump, emphasizing the industry's significance. Executives like Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong met with Trump on Nov. 19 to discuss the idea.

Trump’s team is also considering candidates like Summer Mersinger, a Republican CFTC commissioner, to lead the CFTC. Mersinger has advocated for a more crypto-friendly stance within the agency.

Quant memecoin trader makes nearly $1 million in 3 hours

A savvy trader turned 2 Solana (SOL) into nearly $1 million in just three hours, achieving a 2,141x return despite trading a fraudulent memecoin. The trader spent around $460 to buy 18.89 million Quant (QUANT) tokens and sold a portion for 116 SOL, leaving the rest worth about $962K.

The QUANT token was launched on Solana’s Pump.fun platform but quickly turned out to be a rug pull, a scam where developers abandon the project and steal investor funds. The token’s creator, a teenager, live-streamed the process of selling all his QUANT tokens for a quick profit of $30K before moving on to other projects.

Despite the scam, the memecoin's price rallied as the community continued to invest, pushing its market cap above $1 million. This highlights the risky but profitable world of memecoins, where volatility often leads to both massive gains and losses.
