Kraken to close NFT marketplace by February 2025
Kraken will shut down its NFT marketplace just over a year after its launch, entering withdrawal-only mode on Nov. 27. Clients will have three months to withdraw assets before the platform fully closes. Kraken says the move allows it to focus on new products and services.
Launched in June 2023, Kraken’s marketplace featured over 250 NFT collections without gas fees. Its closure follows a sharp market decline, with trading volumes plunging from $12.6 billion in early 2022 to $3.9 billion in 2024’s first quarter. Competition from OpenSea and Blur, coupled with regulatory scrutiny, has added pressure.
The NFT sector faces growing legal challenges, including SEC actions against OpenSea. While Kraken is in a separate legal battle, it’s unclear if regulatory issues influenced its decision to shut down the marketplace.

OpenAI’s Sora video model leaked in protest by artists
A group called "Sora PR Puppets" leaked access to OpenAI’s video generator, Sora, in protest of unfair practices. On Tuesday, they posted a project on Hugging Face linked to Sora’s unreleased API, allowing users to generate 10-second videos with a text prompt. The group claims OpenAI pressured early testers to promote the tool without proper compensation.
They argue that hundreds of artists have worked for free, providing bug testing and feedback for OpenAI’s $150B company. The group criticizes the program as a PR move rather than a platform for creative expression. Sora’s early access, they say, is tightly controlled, with outputs needing OpenAI’s approval before sharing.
After the leak, OpenAI temporarily shut down access, likely revoking the group’s credentials. The controversy continues as the group demands fairer treatment and more transparency from OpenAI.

iPhone 17 Pro rumored to feature bold design changes
The iPhone 17 lineup is still months away, but rumors are already surfacing about major design changes. According to The Information, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will switch to an aluminum frame and feature a larger rear camera bump. This marks the return of aluminum for the high-end models, a material last used in the iPhone 7 series.
In addition to the frame change, the back of the iPhone 17 Pro will combine aluminum and glass, with a larger rectangular camera bump made of aluminum. This will be the first major redesign of the rear camera system since the iPhone 11 Pro in 2019.
The iPhone 17 Air is also expected to feature a unique camera design with a centered bump and a single lens. However, these details are still subject to change as Apple finalizes the design.

Apple ordered to lift App Store restrictions in Brazil
Brazil’s antitrust authority, Cade, has ordered Apple to lift restrictions on in-app purchases within 20 days, or face fines of $43,000 daily. The ruling stems from a 2022 complaint by Mercado Libre, demanding Apple let developers use external payment systems or link to outside websites for digital purchases.
This decision mirrors global regulatory efforts challenging Apple’s strict App Store rules. Regions like Europe, Japan, and the U.S. have pushed the tech giant to allow third-party payments, though critics argue Apple’s adjustments remain insufficient.
Cade’s move could mark another crack in Apple’s “walled garden” model. With growing scrutiny from regulators worldwide, the case signals a potential shift in how app stores operate, reshaping the balance of power in digital marketplaces.
