Procreate takes a stand against generative AI
Procreate, a popular iPad illustration app, has firmly rejected the integration of generative AI into its products. "We’re not going to be introducing any generative AI," said CEO James Cuda, expressing concern over the impact on artists and the creative industry.
The backlash against generative AI stems from artists’ worries about unauthorized use of their work in AI training and the potential loss of jobs due to the technology. In response, some artists are turning away from apps like Adobe Photoshop, which have embraced AI tools.
Procreate’s stance has garnered widespread support from the creative community, mirroring similar reactions to companies like Clip Studio Paint, Wacom, and Wizards of the Coast, who faced criticism for incorporating or planning to incorporate AI features. Even Adobe's attempts at ethical AI have been met with skepticism from artists who feel betrayed.

Tesla is hiring people to train its Optimus robot
Tesla is hiring "Data Collection Operators" to help train its humanoid Optimus robot by wearing motion capture suits and mimicking tasks the robot will perform. The job, which pays up to $48 per hour, involves walking for over seven hours a day, carrying up to 30 pounds, and wearing a VR headset for extended periods. Candidates must be between 5’7’’ and 5’11’’, matching Optimus' projected height.
Tesla has already hired over 50 workers for the role, using motion capture as a cost-effective method to teach Optimus human-like movements. However, experts like Nvidia’s Animesh Garg warn that training Optimus may require millions of hours of data and significant investment, with no guarantee of success.
Despite Elon Musk's promises of "genuinely useful" bots by next year, Optimus remains in early development, similar to other humanoid robots from Boston Dynamics and competitors.

Zoom raises its simultaneous viewer cap to 1 million
Zoom has unveiled a major upgrade: its webinars now support up to one million participants. This change follows the platform’s recent use by political groups for fundraising, including Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign, which involved massive virtual gatherings.
The new webinar tiers range from 10K to 1M attendees, with each tier including a single-use package and support from Zoom’s Event Services for a polished experience. Smita Hashim, Zoom's Chief Product Officer, highlights that this expansion offers organizers unprecedented flexibility for large-scale interactive events.
While these large webinars are pricey—a $100,000 fee for a million participants compared to $9,000 for 10,000—Zoom envisions broad applications beyond political events, including enterprise, entertainment, and public sectors.
