Ford to Pay $165 Million Fine Over Rearview Camera Recall Failures

Ford faces a $165 million fine after delays in recalling vehicles with faulty rearview cameras, marking a significant penalty from NHTSA.

Ford has agreed to pay a hefty $165 million fine following its failure to promptly recall vehicles with defective rearview cameras. This fine represents the second-largest penalty ever issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), second only to the 2019 Takata airbag recall.

The automaker faced additional scrutiny for not providing accurate information in its recall reports to the NHTSA and for failing to meet deadlines for submitting quarterly updates. As part of the settlement, Ford will pay $65 million within the next few months, while $55 million will be withheld based on the company's compliance with the terms.
