PayPal's Bitcoin rewards program promotes sustainable mining
PayPal, alongside Energy Web and DMG Blockchain Solutions, aims to enhance sustainable Bitcoin mining by introducing cryptoeconomic incentives. Green miners using eco-friendly energy sources would receive special "green keys" and preferential treatment for Bitcoin transactions, including lower fees and additional locked BTC rewards.
This initiative, outlined in an April 22 blog post, seeks to foster discussion and innovation within the Bitcoin community, inviting industry feedback for potential improvements.
Through these incentives, rational miners are encouraged to prioritize low-carbon energy sources, leveraging Energy Web's "Green Proofs for Bitcoin" platform for certification based on clean energy usage and grid impact scores. Green miners can participate in the program by registering and sharing their green keys on the platform.
EU threatens to suspend TikTok Lite app’s rewards feature
The European Union (EU) has launched a second investigation into TikTok under the Digital Services Act, focusing on TikTok Lite's potentially addictive features. TikTok Lite, a smaller version of the app, offers rewards for watching and liking videos, raising concerns about its impact on young users' mental health.
Despite the EU's concerns, TikTok Lite remains available in the EU as ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, contests potential measures. ByteDance has not provided a requested risk assessment document for TikTok Lite, risking penalties of up to one percent of its annual income for non-compliance with the DSA.
The EU has not confirmed breaches of the DSA but may impose temporary measures on ByteDance as the investigation progresses. Penalties for non-compliance could be significant, with fines potentially reaching up to one percent of ByteDance's annual income.

Amazon shuts down its drone delivery service in California
Amazon has ceased drone deliveries in California, closing its Lockeford site and offering employees opportunities elsewhere. This comes as the company plans to launch drone deliveries in the West Valley Phoenix Metro area, aiming to integrate them fully into its network for faster order fulfillment.
While the exact launch date for Phoenix remains uncertain pending FAA and local approvals, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego supports the initiative, citing its potential to reduce pollution and drive technological innovation.
Despite setbacks in California and Texas, where FAA restrictions limit drone flights, Amazon remains committed. It's testing advanced MK30 drones with greater range and plans to expand drone deliveries to more US locations in the coming year.
TikTok Shop launches new 'Preowned Luxury' category
TikTok Shop, TikTok’s social commerce marketplace, is expanding its reach by introducing a secondhand luxury category in the U.K., mirroring its U.S. counterpart. This move intensifies its rivalry with established players like The RealReal and Depop.
In this new category, U.K. shoppers can seamlessly browse and purchase pre-owned high-end fashion items directly within the TikTok app. Initial offerings include products from five notable U.K. brands.
Since its 2022 debut, TikTok Shop has facilitated over $1 billion in sales, yet concerns persist regarding counterfeit products infiltrating the platform. To combat this, discussions with luxury giant LVMH are underway, and stringent anti-counterfeit measures are in place, including third-party authentication for all secondhand goods.
