STORIES MAKING A SPLASH

Blade Runner 2049 producers sue Elon Musk and Tesla

Alcon Entertainment, the production company behind Blade Runner 2049, is suing Tesla, Elon Musk, and Warner Bros. Discovery over alleged copyright infringement. The lawsuit claims that Tesla used an AI image generator to create promotional art resembling stills from the 2017 sci-fi film for its "We, Robot" event, despite Alcon’s refusal to grant permission.

Alcon states that Warner Bros. Discovery requested use of the imagery just hours before the event, but Alcon denied the request. Despite this, Tesla allegedly generated similar images using AI, which were prominently displayed during the event, where Musk referenced Blade Runner by name.

Alcon is seeking damages, accusing Musk, Tesla, and WBD of knowingly using the images without authorization and refusing any association between Blade Runner 2049 and Musk's companies.

Meta suspends celebrity jet-tracking accounts

Meta has suspended several Threads and Instagram accounts that tracked the private jets of celebrities like Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and Kim Kardashian. The accounts, managed by Jack Sweeney, used publicly available data to share flight paths but were removed without warning. Sweeney compared this to his previous suspensions on X, where he gained attention for the @ElonJet account.

Meta cited privacy concerns and the risk of physical harm as reasons for the suspension, stating it was in line with their privacy policy. Sweeney’s accounts displayed error messages after being taken down, leaving no options for interaction.

Sweeney noted that at least 38 of his accounts have been suspended across platforms, with some, like one tracking Taylor Swift, deactivated after legal threats earlier this year.

iOS 18.1 launches next week with Apple Intelligence

Apple's iOS 18.1 is launching next week, with major updates including hearing aid support for AirPods Pro 2 and expanded Apple Intelligence features, according to multiple sources like The Wall Street Journal. The update builds on the beta version released in September.

The hearing aid feature, announced during Apple's September keynote, allows AirPods Pro 2 to act as customizable hearing aids. This comes after FDA approval and will help users detect potential hearing loss and optimize sound in real-time. While wearing AirPods in conversations may seem awkward, they offer a more affordable option compared to traditional hearing aids.

Apple Intelligence, introduced at the June WWDC, adds AI-powered tools like smart audio recording and transcription for apps like Mail and Notes. It also offers writing enhancements, with more features expected in future updates.
