STORIES MAKING A SPLASH

AI
Reddit to test AI-powered search result pages

Reddit's CEO Steve Huffman hinted at major changes during the company's second earnings call as a public entity. Later this year, Reddit plans to test AI-powered search results designed to summarize and recommend content, aiming to enhance user discovery of products, shows, and communities.

Huffman highlighted that Reddit’s search function has remained static for years and sees AI integration as a way to attract new users and potentially boost ad revenue. He also suggested exploring new revenue streams, such as paywalled subreddits, to monetize exclusive content and private areas.

Since its public debut, Reddit has pursued various revenue strategies, including multimillion-dollar licensing deals with Google and OpenAI, while blocking search engines that don’t comply with its content usage terms to safeguard user privacy.

Trump says Elon Musk will interview him on Monday

Former President Donald J. Trump announced he will be interviewed by Elon Musk next Monday night. Trump revealed this on Truth Social, promising further details soon. Musk, the billionaire owner of X and CEO of Tesla, was previously skeptical but has recently supported Trump’s candidacy.

Last month, shortly after Trump survived an assassination attempt in Butler, Pa., Musk endorsed him, breaking from the usual neutrality of social media leaders. Trump often highlights Musk as a key ally on the campaign trail, admiring his technological innovations despite criticizing electric vehicles’ cost and range.

Musk’s connection to America PAC, a pro-Trump super PAC, has faced significant scrutiny. The group, which was set to invest heavily in the campaign, has been plagued by disarray, raising questions about its effectiveness.

X files antitrust lawsuit against ad industry group GARM

X CEO Linda Yaccarino announced on Tuesday that the social media platform has filed an antitrust lawsuit against the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) and the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA). In a video posted to X, Yaccarino accuses GARM and its members—CVS Health, Mars, Orsted, and Unilever—of orchestrating an “illegal boycott” of the platform.

The lawsuit cites a July U.S. House Judiciary Committee report, “GARM’s Harm,” which highlights GARM's role in a campaign to withdraw ads from X following Elon Musk’s acquisition. The report reveals internal discussions among GARM members about organizing a boycott, which allegedly led to a significant revenue drop for X.

Yaccarino asserts that GARM’s actions have cost X billions of dollars, accusing the organizations of engaging in systematic and unlawful behavior.

Microsoft links security to employee performance reviews

Microsoft is now making security a core priority in employee performance reviews, as announced by Chief People Officer Kathleen Hogan. In an internal memo, Hogan emphasized that security must come before all other considerations, and employees will be evaluated on their commitment to this priority.

This new focus means that a lack of attention to security could affect promotions, salary increases, and bonuses. Microsoft is integrating security alongside diversity and inclusion as key performance criteria, making it essential for employees to show how their work contributes to these goals.

Employees, especially those in technical roles, will need to demonstrate their impact by embedding security into product design and adhering to best practices. This shift aims to ensure that security is a fundamental part of every project and employee evaluation.
