STORIES MAKING A SPLASH
ENTERTAINMENT
Chick-fil-A to launch streaming service with original shows
In a surprising move, Chick-fil-A is planning to enter the crowded streaming market later this year. According to Deadline, the fast food chain is collaborating with production companies and studios to create original content for its own streaming platform. Initially, the focus will be on family-friendly unscripted programming, including a game show produced by Glassman Media and Sugar23. The service may eventually expand to include scripted series, animation, and licensed content.
Chick-fil-A has not yet officially commented on the project, but this venture could be part of a broader strategy similar to Disney’s with Disney Plus or Walmart’s partnership with Paramount Plus.
The idea might seem unusual, but Chick-fil-A’s ties to the entertainment industry, through the Cathy family's involvement with Trilith Studios, make this pivot somewhat understandable.

Microsoft to roll out Windows Recall to Insiders in October
Microsoft’s Windows Recall feature, designed to store a timeline of your PC activity, now has a new release date for Windows Insiders. Initially unveiled in May, the feature faced backlash from security researchers and was delayed indefinitely. On Wednesday, Microsoft announced that Recall will roll out to beta testers on Copilot+ PCs in October.
Windows Recall acts as a “photographic memory” for your PC, allowing you to revisit past activities like products, emails, documents, or chats. While useful for heavy PC users, the feature raised serious privacy concerns. Security experts warned that unencrypted data in Recall could expose sensitive information to intruders.
Responding to criticism, Microsoft has since added essential security features to Recall. Despite these improvements, the initial lack of encryption left many questioning the company’s priorities when the feature was first announced.

DBS Bank pilots blockchain-based government grants
Singapore’s DBS Bank has launched a blockchain-based solution to streamline government grant disbursements. Partnering with Enterprise Singapore (ESG) and the Singapore Fintech Association (SFA), DBS used smart contracts during a pilot to distribute grants to 27 SFA members. This blockchain technology aims to boost efficiency and speed up access to funds.
With DBS’s permissioned blockchain, ESG and its intermediaries set grant conditions and oversee disbursements. Smart contracts automatically verify these conditions and release funds to approved recipients, reducing manual processing and accelerating cash payouts.
The solution also enhances transparency by providing full process visibility. This pilot builds on DBS’s experience from Project Orchid, a digital currency initiative by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) that explores the benefits of tokenization.

Binance plans to hire 1,000 as it ramps up compliance
Richard Teng, CEO of Binance, revealed plans to expand the company's workforce by 1,000 by the end of 2024, with a focus on growing its compliance team from 500 to 700. The exchange is set to invest over $200 million this year in regulatory compliance, especially following its plea deal with the U.S. Justice Department.
In 2023, Binance settled criminal charges with the DOJ, agreeing to pay $4.3 billion for failing to prevent illicit activities. The company also faces a separate lawsuit from the SEC for offering unregistered financial securities.
Teng noted that Binance is experiencing a surge in global law enforcement requests, with 63,000 so far in 2024, up from 58,000 last year. Two monitors have begun evaluating Binance’s financial and transaction records as part of its compliance efforts.
