STORIES MAKING A SPLASH

SPACE
Europe's Ariane 6 rocket finally ready for liftoff

Europe's eagerly awaited Ariane 6 rocket is scheduled to launch from Kourou, French Guiana, on Tuesday, replacing the retired Ariane 5 after nearly three decades of service. Development of the Ariane 6, managed by Arianespace for ESA, faced multiple delays since its original 2020 debut target, attributed to technical challenges and external disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions.

The new rocket is anticipated to conduct between nine to 12 missions annually by 2026, bolstering Europe's autonomous access to space. ESA officials emphasize its capabilities to advance scientific research, Earth observation, and commercial opportunities.

The inaugural launch will deploy nine cubesats into low Earth orbit and conduct non-orbital experiments, including reentry capsule trials and sustainable disposal practices for the rocket's upper stage.

BUSINESS
Boeing to plead guilty to fraud in US probe

Boeing has agreed to plead guilty to criminal fraud charges related to the 737 Max crashes that resulted in 346 fatalities, the Justice Department announced Sunday. Federal prosecutors presented Boeing with the option to admit guilt and pay fines or face trial for conspiring to deceive US regulators regarding aircraft approvals and training.

The plea agreement, subject to approval by a federal judge, includes a $243.6 million fine, matching a previous settlement breached by Boeing in 2021. An independent monitor will oversee Boeing’s safety and quality protocols for three years, alongside a mandatory $455 million investment in compliance and safety enhancements.

The deal pertains exclusively to pre-crash misconduct in Indonesia and Ethiopia, excluding immunity for future incidents or individual accountability of Boeing executives.

CRYPTO
Lionel Messi promotes Solana memecoin on Instagram

International soccer legend Lionel Messi is promoting a Solana-based memecoin called WaterCoin (WATER) on his Instagram Stories. WaterCoin aims to raise awareness for water-related issues, aspiring to become an ecological coin in the future.

The project's roadmap includes stages from the token's presale and exchange listings to celebrity partnerships and evolving into a charity-focused environmental currency. However, details on how these goals will be achieved are sparse, and the token's price has shown "pump and dump" patterns.

Investing in memecoins is risky due to their volatile price movements often unrelated to the token's utility. Despite this, many traders are drawn to the potential for high profits. The popularity of memecoins has sparked debate within the crypto community, with some criticizing them for damaging the industry's reputation and attracting regulatory scrutiny.
