Slack can now generate transcripts from huddles using AI

Salesforce has introduced new AI features to Slack aimed at automating routine tasks, such as transcriptions. The key highlight is Slack AI huddle notes, which capture takeaways and action items during meetings, allowing users to focus on their work. It builds on Slack AI's earlier ability to summarize channel highlights and threads.

When in a huddle, Slack AI transcribes real-time audio and organizes notes with citations, action items, and shared files. These notes are accessible later, even to those who missed the meeting. The AI search feature also now provides personalized results from uploaded files, including documents and transcripts.

Additionally, the AI Workflow Builder automates tasks like sending welcome messages, without coding. New templates for project management and feedback collection are set to launch in October 2024, with AI features available as a paid add-on.

Apple’s iOS 18 is now available to download

iOS 18 is now available, bringing significant updates to your iPhone. The new version introduces advanced Home Screen customization, a redesigned Photos app, and enhanced personalization options.

With iOS 18, you can now arrange app icons and widgets freely on your Home Screen, creating empty spaces and customizing their placement. The update also allows you to tint icons and widgets in any color or switch to a dark mode for a unified dark theme across both Apple and third-party apps. Additionally, a new setting makes icons and widgets larger and removes their labels.

The Messages app also gets a boost with iOS 18, featuring new text effects like shake, explode, and ripple to add flair to your messages. To update, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If it’s not available immediately, check back later as the rollout continues.

TikTok battles US ban at appeals court

TikTok argued in court on Monday that a US law demanding its sale by ByteDance or a ban would significantly impact the free speech of its 170 million US users. The law, aimed at preventing potential misuse of US data by the Chinese government, has led TikTok and ByteDance to challenge it as unconstitutional.

TikTok's lawyer, Andrew Pincus, contended that the law imposes an unprecedented restriction on speech based on speculative risks rather than proven misconduct. He highlighted that ByteDance is a Cayman Islands company that is not directly controlled by China.

However, Judge Ginsberg noted that the law targets companies linked to foreign adversaries, not just TikTok. The judges questioned whether the law’s scope might be too broad, arguing that it effectively bars the current control structure of the company rather than the company itself.
