Stake raises $14 million in Series A round

Apple brings ChatGPT to iPhones in AI overhaul

Apple announced at WWDC 2024 that it will integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT into Siri and other first-party apps. This collaboration aims to enhance Siri's capabilities by utilizing ChatGPT for tasks like meal planning with garden ingredients or content creation within system-wide writing tools.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting shared commitments to safety and innovation. Users will be able to ask Siri questions and get responses from ChatGPT, including the ability to handle photos, documents, and PDFs.

The ChatGPT integration, powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o model, will launch on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia later this year. Privacy protections ensure that requests are not stored and IP addresses are obscured. Premium features will be available for OpenAI subscribers within these apps.

Nokia makes first phone call with 3D spatial audio

Nokia has achieved a milestone by conducting the first-ever audio and video call using 3D spatial audio over a cellular network. This breakthrough utilizes the 3GPP Immersive Video and Audio Services (IVAS) codec, enabling real-time spatial sound perception, a feature absent in conventional phone calls.

Spatial audio, familiar from music streaming, now extends to video calls, offering immersive experiences. However, widespread adoption awaits the rollout of 5G Advanced, promising faster speeds and enhanced energy efficiency, although it may take a few years.

While the IVAS codec requires smartphones with at least two microphones, Nokia anticipates broad support across devices once cellular carriers integrate the technology. Notably, this innovation originates from Nokia's research and technical arm, distinct from its handset division licensed to HMD.
